Upcoming Doc Savage #1 Issue Cover Art

Anthony Tollin and Nostalgia Ventures are getting close to the first issue of the upcoming Doc Savage reprint series.  Issue number 1 will have two different covers.  Here are the preliminary cover art designs for both variants, one with the original Robert Harris pulp cover and one with the James Bama paperback cover.  Hopefully we’ll have the actual magazines in soon!  I’ll keep you posted!

A Note From Bob Weinberg

Just a short note to let all my friends, family, and assorted fellow travelers that my web site, http://www.robertweinberg.net/ has undergone a major updating.  Lots of new stuff, including Phyllis’ first professionally published piece of journalism, a tribute to my father’s adventures in World War II (he was wounded on D-Day, scouting behind German lines, after landing at Omaha Beach — same spot that Saving Private Ryan begins!).

Plus there’s news of latest books I’ve written, short stories published, Japanese movies I like, and much more.   The site is probably going to get a few more additions (and some spelling corrections) in days to come, but it’s worth checking out now.  I turn 60 on August 29th, so this is my birthday present to myself.  Drop by and leave a hello in my guest book.

as always,
bob weinberg

Mickey Spillane, Hardboiled Author of Mike Hammer

Catching up on some old news, about a month old, Mickey Spillane passed away. This article talks about his writing career, dating back to the pulp era and his primary influence being Carroll John Daly.  The article goes into considerable detail following Mr. Spillane’s entire career.   Along with Dashiell Hammett, Raymond Chandler and Carroll John Daly, Mickey Spillane with his tough guy hero Mike Hammer defined the hard boiled hero who lives on today.

Various Pulp Related News and Notes from the Press

Here’s an interesting article which traces the roots of Film Noir back to the pulp fiction era with mention of Raymond Chandler, Dashiell Hammet and “the lurid plotting of the pulp novel.” Double Indemnity, Film Noir and Pulp Fiction from the New York Times

Paul Malmont’s The China Death Cloud Peril gets another book review, this one from the Sun-Sentinel.

The recent pulp convention, Pulpcon 35 made the news. Here is an article quoting John Gunnison as well as announcing a new line of pulp reprints written by L. Ron Hubbard.
