During the 1940s Alfred Bester began his career writing for the pulp magazine Thrilling Wonder Stories. He then worked as a scripter for the comics, radio, and television markets for such characters as the Shadow, Superman, Batman, Charlie Chan, and Nick Carter. During the 1950s, he returned to prose and created some of the greatest science fiction stories of that era.
